Feb. 11th, 2006 02:31 pmWatched this week's BSG and my heart is breaking. I loved Billy so much and now he's dead, as dead as Wash, as dead as Boone, as dead as Boromir, as dead as Doyle but unlike them he was my perfect man and OMG!!! I'll take your debate team ring and marry you, Billy!
I should've known that Ron Moore could be that cruel. After all, they killed off Jadzia on DS9 just because Terry Farrell took another job and he killed off Colin Hanks' character on Roswell. Why does Hollywood hate smart people?
hiyacynth says that if we started loving the heroes instead of the second or third tier characters then this wouldn't happen to us so often but I just can't do it! Love Lee more then Billy? I'm sorry Lee, you're great and all, but I can't love you that way. My love for you is much more that of an exasperated older sister.
However, to give Ron Moore credit, he did make Billy's death fit into the story logic. It was in character and affected all of the other characters around him. Joss Whedon could take a few notes on how to effectively kill people, ie. you don't just kill them off for the shock value. There sure as hell'd better be some sort of emotional validation or else your fans will know it. Of course, all this means is that I can mourn for Billy, something I don't know if I'll ever be able to do for Wash because my anger with Joss shows no signs of abating, but doesn't change the fact that he's dead and nothing will ever bring him back.
Did you see Roslin in the morgue? Didn't she just break you? Wow, things are going to change ...
Yes, the grief is still too near.

Date: 2006-02-11 07:54 pm (UTC)Roslin in the morgue killed me. Dee kissing his hand... UGH. So awful. And OMG how he totally just dropped the Dumpee attitude (which, dude, I have no problem with him having) and holding onto Dee the whole time. And... "He'll be all right." OMG BILLY WHY???
But you're right. So much better than Wash. On second viewing it actually stuck in my head that the reason he finally went for the gun was that she'd said, "Kill the girlfriend," and that the Marines were way far out. Such a hero.
*cries some more*

Date: 2006-02-11 08:39 pm (UTC)Didn't help that Iolaus insisted on multitple meetings with his maker, it's a wonder my heart survived. Even Joxer got more than one in.

Date: 2006-02-13 02:46 am (UTC)Oh, Iolaus. At least he always made it back from the dead, even if it hurt like a bastard every time it happened.

Date: 2006-02-13 02:47 am (UTC)I'd tell them not to be heroes and get themselves killed but then we wouldn't love then as much. It's a conundrum.

Date: 2006-02-12 12:18 am (UTC)Also, interesting FYI, he mentioned, in a Vortexy moment, that he'd killed Colin Hanks off of Roswell for similar reasons--"He kept getting called to do things like Band of Brothers..." My head spun a bit.
Still woe.
