Jan. 7th, 2006 05:31 pmSaw Brokeback Mountain with the Baylor Sisters last night. Am apparently dead inside as I did not weep uncontrollably at the end. I did feel sad and wistful and a little choked up but the tears did not flow. Hence the deadness. I did feel a little disconnected emotionally, from the onscreen characters which was not a problem I had while reading the story. Ennis is just such a damn hard character to fathom, you know? Heath Ledger does a fabulous job with him but it was just hard to connect, to any of them, really. Not to say that it's not a specactacular movie, it is. I guess I just expect all romances to fail because life sucks and I am a cynical old woman at 26. Not to talk about me and my issues, of course. ;-)
Came home from that movie to discover that the Wrestler had rented The Island so we killed time watching that. Yes, I know it's a Michael Bay movie and yes, it was kinda stupid but in its defence it is better then Pearl Harbor. Not that that's a thrilling defense, but there you go. It was kinda fun watching all of the 'L.A.' bits that were filmed in Detroit because every now and again the Da would say something like, "There's the Penobscot Building." and we would laugh because Bay didn't even try to make it not look like Detroit.
And Scarlett Johanson can't act, but we already knew that.
Because we watched a crappy Michael Bay picture, the Wrestler and I missed the new episode of Battlestar Galactica, which was vexing. We got kinda caught up this week on SciFi only to miss the new ep. *sigh* It is nice to have the Wrestler around because he'll watch the scifi shows with me and there will be mornings where I wake up and think to myself, "Did I just hear Simon Tam being snotty or was that a dream?" only to find that he's watching 'Bushwhacked' upstairs. Not that he's a Firefly convert but that's probably a good thing. Stupid, freaking Joss Whedon.
I really have to go see Narnia again.

Date: 2006-01-08 12:20 am (UTC)I didn't watch BSG last night since I haven't caught all the way up yet. I have a tape of the episode, though, and will send it your way when I'm done if you want.

Date: 2006-01-09 02:31 am (UTC)But we're also both dead inside. Though I'm not sure how dead that is considering our reaction to the Wash Memorial. *sniffle*

Date: 2006-01-08 06:18 am (UTC)I wouldn't know, I'm a conscientious pushover. I *make* myself cry. If I'm not tearing up as Sam is holding Frodo on that smoking mountainside, or as Dick is describing his friend Lew's tough times after the war, knowing what, in both cases, comes next, then I remind myself what's coming. I picked this up from my sister. We cry:
1) At the opening bars to "When I Fall In Love" from Sleepless In Seattle, and
2) At the opening bars of "Beauty & The Beast".
Strangely enough both are Celine Dion songs. Celine Dion singing movie soundtracks = automatic weeping at the START of the song. Which is probably true for most people, but for different reasons.

Date: 2006-01-09 02:35 am (UTC)I hate Celine Dion as much as the next person but the woman does have a way of making one cry. I remember crying buckets when I first heard her Titanic song. This was before it was overplayed and I started to hate it with an undying passion.
Hmmm, maybe I should look into that 'making myself cry' thing, if only to get Baylor off my back.
