Dec. 20th, 2005 03:12 pmDan, Heather and I held the annual Kirkmas Extravaganza last night.
"And Lo, the Captain did come upon the people of the planet. To their leader he was taken, and there did he break bread and make merry. Then, in the deep of night, with stealthy prowess, did he shag the alien king's girlfriend."
No, we didn't try to take over the world, though Dan did discover that the secret to being an effective evil ruler is to brandish everything you hold. We actually had a fairly quiet evening of watching the old BBC The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and exchanging gifts (OMG!! Dan got me the 2nd volume of Farscape season one! *squee*).
Let me just say that while I remember adoring the BBC Narnia when I was a sprog and hearing the music was enough to bring tears to my eyes* the production itself is horribly awful. Everything about it is just bad, bad, bad. The tyrannosaurus beavers are enough to give me nightmares for weeks. Thank goodness for the movie which I will absolutely have to go see tonight so that I can wipe all memory of that horrible thing from my mind.
While watching that cheestastic excuse for entertainment we also tried some Turkish Delight. Everything you've ever heard is absolutely true, it's both yummy and awful. The plain is good and the kind with hazelnuts was even better though I wouldn't betray my brothers on the off chance that there are rooms and rooms stuffed with the stuff. There was another kind, however, that was disgusting. It tasted like some sort of flowery soap. Ugh, I couldn't even swallow it.
All in all it was a very entertaining evening with cameraderie and good companionship. Merry Kirkmas to all!
*sidenote: when I mentioned the viewing to the Big Lug he too remembered the music fondly though he remembers nothing else.
I learned some interesting things over the weekend, for example, my great uncle was the commander of a squad of African-American Marines during WWII. They never saw actual combat but, dude, I never knew that about him. That's pretty cool.
I continue to bake tray after tray of Christmas cookies. I can't wait till I'm done but just when I think that everyone has everything they need someone ransacks the cookie buckets or another plate needs to be put together and back to the kitchen I go. I'm hoping that today will be the final day. *fingers crossed* Here's hoping I don't jinx myself. ;-)
It sounds like the Wrestler is cleaning up the kitchen. Finally, he's doing something useful. I guess Spongebob isn't on.
I really, really, really want to go see Narnia again. Oh look, it seems that someone's found a new fandom after all.

Date: 2005-12-22 08:38 pm (UTC)heathensgirls wanna go too because I must see it with you as well. This time, at least, we'll leave the theater crying for good reasons rather then heartbreaking ones.I'm sure that we'll have company because all the Baylor Sisters could talk about last night was going to see it again.
