May. 5th, 2005 09:21 amHA! I'm BACK!!
All shall love me and despair, etc., etc.
Feeling chipper and happy. The flu wasn't really so bad, mostly general malaise and lack of energy. The funeral wasn't so bad either. I wasn't particularly close to my great-aunt so while my heart mourned for my uncle who looked sad and lost and smaller I know that my aunt lived a full and happy life. She had come to the end of a long road and was happy to be going home.
And at the reception afterwards a random woman came up and sat at our table and we had a great discussion. She was extremely affable and Canadian and I wish I could remember her name. Thanks to her I think I want to learn how to golf. No, seriously, I mean it. It might just be a pretty good idea.
Now I am back at work, which is sad but not too bad. Yes, it does seem that my three sick/family days are going to be the closest thing I get to vacation all year, but I'll survive. It'll all get better, someday, I'm sure.
And Lost was on last night. I like that show.
I love Locke. I love Sayid. I love Charlie and baby. I love Claire. Shannon has issues and is interesting. I love Michael and Jin. I love Hurley. Yeah, there's all sorts of love going on for me over on that island.
I do not love Jack and Kate, but that's okay, you can't love everybody. If it came down to a choice between who to follow, Locke or Jack I would totally follow Locke. He might be a little crazy but he's also rational and goal-oriented and people-smart. True, he didn't tell Sayid the whole truth last night, but, you know, he only left out the stuff that would make him seem crazy and fanatical and that's the kind of stuff I tend to keep quiet too. When you tell people that you had a dream that lead you to the plane that fell and killed Boone, well, that sounds kinda crazy even though it's true and most people would generally start to think that you're generally crazy and not give your opinions the weight and merit they deserve. So, in summation, Locke is my leader.
Oh Sayid, your story is so angst-o-riffic what with the woman you love being gone and your terrorist boyfriend shooting himself in front of you after you betrayed him. And yet you soldier on, trying to do the best that you can. *sniffle* You're so the coolest. And the hotest and I'm sorry that Shannon has issues and maybe doesn't love you any more. That's okay, there are lots of us who would more then willing to comfort you.
Was Charlie and the baby not the cutest thing you've ever seen? OMG, I just about died from teh cuteness. There was the crying and the rocking and Hurley singing and then his following Sawyer around just trying to get him to talk. And then Claire comes up when Sawyer's reading from the car magazine and it was like they were this cute little blonde family with sexy Uncle Sawyer in his dorky glasses and I was so in love.
The cast is absolutely what makes this show so intriguing. The plot is good but not outstanding but the cast makes the characters believable and sympathetic and I love them all. Except Kate and Jack, they're boring.
Dangit, I go away from work for a couple of days and I come back to find people have been putzing around on my computer and changing the phone system and drinking beer in my office! For the love of Pete, hands off my stuff!!!
ETA: Good luck to all my British friends with the national elections. I hope that things only get better.

Date: 2005-05-05 02:04 pm (UTC)It's okay. Tomorrow is my last day of official work -- after that, anything I do is consulting work. I am ready to be unemployed for a little bit. Le sigh.
How was your baseball game last Friday night?

Date: 2005-05-05 02:19 pm (UTC)Glad to see you back here healthy and such.
And I agree with you on Lost. I definitely find Kate and Jack to be far and away the least interesting characters - which is annoying when the powers that be have declared them "main characters."

I place the blame for Jack and Kate's boring-ness squarely on J.J. Abrams' shoulders. He always has boring main characters with boring love interestes and it's always his supporting characters who are the most intersting. Thank goodness the man has such good taste in actors.

Date: 2005-05-05 02:30 pm (UTC)The game was good. It got really cold by the beginning of the fourth so we left a bit early, but U-M was up by three and they were up by nine by the sixth. The crowd wasn't as much fun as the one the week before was but that's mostly because Spartans suck. I may be a little biased, however;-).
Here's to the beginning of better things.

Date: 2005-05-05 05:45 pm (UTC)I had dinner with two friends of mine, and one of them had his three-year-old daughter with him. She's so adorable, it's not fair. I'm totally nesting and wanting a daughter now (except for the memory of her crying when daddy took away some string she was playing with). I took about 60+ pictures of her that night, she was running around and climbing on all of us, it was so much fun.
