Mar. 2nd, 2005 11:05 amY'know, as much as I love youse guys and all, I would much rather be at home, curled up with my teddy bear (his name is Ithil) then sitting in front of a computer. It would be so warm and cozy.
Since I have nothing better to talk about, I will now proceed to ramble on and on about some new tv shows that I've started watching.
I am amazed and shocked to have discovered on Monday night that Deadwood is so my favorite tv show on HBO. Poor Carnivale has been knocked out of the number one spot to be replaced by a show that I never thought I would enjoy. I'm not big on westerns, never have been, but Deadwood is so historical and real and gritty and the performances are across the board so captivating that I find myself helpless to resist. The season one finale had me all over the place emotionally, it was great. I find myself really looking forward to season two and am very happy that it premieres on Sunday.
I've also recently started watching House. While the medical portion of the show doesn't exactly spark my interest the characters are fascinating. And the acting is wonderful. There's just so much going on under the surface of these brilliant, screwed-up characters and I'm officially intrigued. I may have started watching to stave off boredom while doing laundry but I will continue watching because 'tis good.
Made a point to tape Down With Love yesterday and have to say that I'm very pleased that I did. What a fun movie. It's fun and light-hearted and balances silliness with deeper meaning extremely well. It certainly helps that Ewan McGregor is devestatingly attractive and David Hyde Pierce is charmingly neurotic and Renee Zellweger is the most entertaining that I've ever seen her be. It's so retro and modern and fun and the song that Ewan and Renee sing at the end is absolutely to die for. It's officially the best romantic comedy I've ever seen.
And now, some
I know I'm not the only person out there who has become increasingly disappointed with the life of the Star Trek franchise. There hasn't been a really great Trek show since DS9 left the airwaves and the movies have become more and more lackluster since First Contact. I was actually a little relieved to hear that Enterprise had been cancelled and that Les Moonves, the head of Paramount, thought it was time to give Trek a little hiatus (as well as get rid of Rick Berman). Apparently they've changed their minds because now there's talk that the next Trek movie is back on schedule with Rick Berman producing and Eric Jendresen scribing. Yes, that Eric Jendresen, the one of Band of Brothers fame.
Unfortunately, I am not comforted by the hiring of real talent because, well, you remember the last Trek movie, the One That Shall Not Be Named, the one that was scribed by John Logan who wrote Gladiator and The Aviator. I'm feeling rather pessimistic about the prospect of a new movie, which is sad. I can remember counting down the days to the premiere of Star Trek 6, I can remember tearing my hair out during the summer hiatus between TNG's second and third seasons, I can remember how much I used to enjoy the franchise and now ... yeah, not so much. It's all so sad.
Wouldn't it be crazy if some fan started a petition to not film the next movie? To just let the franchise rest? And while we're at it we should get a restraining order keeping George Lucas at least 100 yards away from Star Wars for the rest of his unnatural life. But that's a rant for another day.
Am alone in the office again. It's so quiet and surreal.

Date: 2005-03-02 05:35 pm (UTC)I've seen House before, and really like it too. I wish I were a medical geek, but at least I have some background in biology, so I have a little idea of what they're talking about. Definitely like Dr. House though, for all his sarcasm and bitterness. They keep alluding to his secret past, I wonder just WTF did happen? I heard this week's ep was supposed to be about a kid who was cursed. Hmmm... Well, I only watch TV one night a week (and that would be tonight, gee!!!). I usually go to the rec now, or have homework to do. The bad thing about TV is that I always feel the need to eat something while I watch it... Hence I'm prepared with light popcorn tonight!
Star Trek just needed to quit while it was ahead. In my opinion, the last good series was Next Generation. I too, always looked forward to watching it with the fam. Haven't really watched it much since. I've caught the occasional episode of Deep Space 9, Voyager, or Enterprise, but wasn't incredibly impressed with any of them...
So Down With Love is good, huh? That's one of those movies I always think about renting at the videostore, and pass on for something else. I've been curious about it, but haven't really heard any opinions on it one way or the other... But now maybe I'll see it sometime...
