Good morning all.

I must remember that it is Tuesday, not Monday. I spent Monday doing various fannish things with [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and her sister. None of us know how we lived before BoB came into our lives and my ass was thoroughly kicked at LotR Risk. I blame my overwhelming loss on three things: 1) I suck at strategy games, 2)Damian Lewis was on the tv and even though the movie was Dreamcatcher and he had an annoying beard I was still extremely distracted during his scenes, and 3) I had been completely worn out by an afternoon spent watching the beginning of Why We Fight, all of Points and Office Space.

In conclusion, it's not my fault.

Saturday was also a busy day wherein a friend came down and we saw Constantine in the afternoon and ate Chinese and cheesecake afterwards. Constantine is a better movie then I thought it would be and would have been a brilliant movie if they had cast a better actor in the lead role. Not that Keanu is horrible, he's not, I can just think of about a million British actors who could have brought much more depth and subtlety to the character.

Had a hard time sleeping Saturday night so stayed up late and watched the end of The Forsyte Saga. All I can say is that the intense and unmitigating pain of most of that miniseries was made more then worth it just for the scene at the end where Soames is holding his baby daughter. Oh Damian, you make even the most obnoxious and evil of characters sympathetic. Damn, I've got it bad, don't I? Guess I can't tease Baylor about her Josh fixation anymore.

If I had a million dollars I would ... I'm not sure. Either spend all day watching movies or I would join the foreign service. Maybe I just really want to join the foreign service;-).

I might go see Constantine, looks like my sort of sci fi supernatural film.

It is a lot of fun. I left the theater all bouncy and happy, which is always a good sign. I truly recommend it.

Do not sit too easily on your throne for my day will come! Just you wait, one day I will be victorious!

Okay, Ms. Creepy McMybrain... I also just finished The Forsyte Saga. Yeah. I was unmoved, for the most part, except for steady revulsion and loathing of Soames, despite how pretty Damian looked in those clothes. And the last three minutes did make me feel tiny pricks of sympathy, but otherwise, ick. And most of the other characters left me unmoved, though I did rather love Joly.

In summary: Damian is hot, and BoB is the best.

Hee, the entire RHAR:EC shares the same brain. It makes so much sense, now.

Oy, Forsyte Saga. I've been disgruntled for days over how I didn't hate Soames enough and how generally unmoved I was by Irene. I have also spent much time Mary Sue-ing myself into the bloody thing as an older sister just so I could spend quality time slapping all sorts of characters upside their heads repeatedly.

I was, however, quite fond of Old Jolyon and want him for my grandfather.

Am also suffering from end of Boomtown withdrawl and want to see all the boys together again.

After reading what you and others said over on [livejournal.com profile] poorfrances's lj I felt the need to add an addendum to my own comments.

Because we really are brain twins on this issue;-). I almost feel that the casting of Damian Lewis was the wrong move. As much as I love him it seems that his very presence made Soames Forsyte too sympathetic. Soames is fucking creepy and while I don't think that Irene and I would ever be best of friends or anything like that it is patently obvious that she is not the problem in that relationship!

Shoot, the fact that they cast such a great actor in the role means that I'm left with these little moments of sympathy for the character and that leaves me disgruntled beyond words.

Ahem. So, there. And the Victorian Era illustrates all that is still wrong with society.

I completely agree about the casting. I spent the whole time trying to get myself to like Soames because of Damian, which I just couldn't and ultimately didn't want to. I also spent a lot of time second guessing my own sympathy for Irene. Everyone I've talked to about FS is all "Irene's such a bitch. Irene's so stupid. What was she thinking?" And I kept waiting for her to do something awful, spiteful, bitchy. But all she did was NOT LOVE the character played by Damian Lewis, which would have been a perfectly acceptable had Soames been played by someone else. Yes, she was cold. Yes she had an affair. But he treated her--from moment one--like a thing to be posessed.

And he didn't have a moment of regret about raping her. That whole sob scene after she leaves has nothing to do with regret, it's all about him having lost his favorite toy. And was it just me who thought that the "smothered" cat wasn't a metaphor? I think he probably literally killed that kitten. And what kicked it in for me is that he didn't learn anything. Not a thing. 12 years later, he's still in the same place--force her to do what he wants, possess her, bully, rape, threaten her until he gets what he wants.

Ugh. I need a shower. Lol. Thank you for letting me rant.

Rant away. I'm feeling a strange need for catharsis after watching all of that myself.

This whole thing reminds me of a discussion I had with my youngest brother after we saw 28 Days Later. He and I spend a lot of time engaging in friendly debates and the debate we had on the carride home was the only time we ever reached acrimonious levels. He was attempting to make a case for 'rape is acceptable under zombie-apocalypse circumstances' and I was adamant in my opinion to the contrary. There are some things that are simply unacceptable no matter the circumstances in which one finds oneself.

I'm always disturbed when people say things like, "The bitch got what she deserved." Especially in this case when the character got the complete opposite of what she deserved and she couldn't be classified in any way, shape or form as a bitch.

*eyeroll* It is much too early to be attempting such deep thought. I think I'm going to go look at that pretty picspam from the other day and clear my brain;-).

Hated Soames. And part of it is because I could never see whatever made people fall for Irene. Hated her.

The only time I ever beat my brother at LotR Risk was when I gave up on strategy and went on a murderous rampage.

Soames is a complete asshat. And yes, I couldn't quite understand why everyone and their brother fell in love with Irene, either. She was very Archetype of Victorian Womanhood, so that might've had something to do with it.

So that's the secret to Risk, murderous rampages! Will certainly remember that one. *rubs hands in anticipation*
