Entertainment Crack
Sep. 13th, 2004 09:45 amI'm telling you, this column is appropriately named. It's so my new drug. Today's edition includes new Bond rumors, a look at the new Robert Rodriguez film and Smallville rumors among other things.
There's no better start to a Monday morning then a look at the past weekend's box office performance. Resident Evil: Apocalypse has hoisted Hero out of it's number one spot which proves that even Chinese historical epics are no match for Milla Jovovich's zombie killing skillz.
Weekend Box Office
KongIsKing.net has been updated and a new production diary segment from Peter Jackson himself has been added. You all have to watch these snippets. Seriously, go, watch. I adore PJ and the brief interaction with him and Jack Black and Naomi Watts is one of the most entertaining things I've seen in days. Plus, you can never go wrong seeing the behind the scenes stuff on a Peter Jackson movie.
I'm not the biggest Bond fan in the world, this is a known fact. I've seen the Pierce Brosnan films but I've never been able to sit through any of the older ones, be they Sean Connery or Roger Moore or Timothy Dalton. I am, however, a fan of Dougray Scott so hearing that he's almost definitely sure to be the next Bond makes me take a second look, no matter that nearly every name in Hollywood, and outside of it, has been linked to this role at one point or another. So, go Dougray!
The New Bond?
I should've read more comic books when I was a kid. Ever since the Rise of the Comic Book Movie I've been feeling a little out of sync with geek culture because of my complete lack of knowledge about the great names in that field. I can't debate whether From Hell or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen raped their comic book inspiration because I have never read the original books. But, just because I don't know the source material doesn't mean I can't enjoy the inspired products, and I am all kinds of excited about the new Sin City movie coming from Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. I'm looking forward to this not only because I enjoy Rodriguez as a director and not simply for the outstanding cast but also because this marks the reunion of Zeke and Casey in celluloid. Hmmm, seems I am still my own kind of big ol' geek.
Sin City ComiCon footage
If there were some sort of Smallville-holic's Anonymous chapter in my fair city, I would sign up in a flash. I don't even much like the show, yet I keep on watching it, year after year. Al Gough, one of the creators, has been talking a bit about what will be happening in the upcoming Season 4 and the things he says are vaguely interesting. My favorite bit was about a teenage Flash showing up in Smallville, Kansas and you know why that was my favorite bit? Because Michael Rosenbaum (aka Lex Luthor) does the Flash voicework on the Justice League cartoons. The whole idea of another actor being cast to play a role that an existing castmember already plays, albeit on another show, just makes me giggle.
Gough on Smallville
The historian in me is crying out for bloody retribution. I just found out about a new John Smith movie (entitled The New World andstarring Colin Farrell as the disreputable Englishman) where, once again, he and Pocahontas have some sort of romantic relationship. Well, it's gotta be better then that crappy Disney movie.

And finally, while this news may not be from the entertainment community, it is vaguely entertaining. Apparently the first Gay Nation has been formed with its own Emperor and everything. I am not making this up. Don't believe me? Fine, go check out gaykingdom.org and you'll have all the proof you need.
