It's going to rain, I'm sure it's going to rain and here I went and left my wonderful umbrella at home. That's what I get for waking up late this morning;-).

Life is ever so boring and not a whole lot is going on. Actually, I've been sleeping a lot the last few days, and having many vivid dreams that I don't remember very well upon awakening. Weird, that.

Anywho, just touching bases, letting all of ya'll know that I'm still alive. Life is ticking on.

Oh yeah, did go to see Hellboy with [livejournal.com profile] hlgraban last week. I guess I could talk about that.

First off, I just have to say how much I enjoyed this movie. Was it perfect? No. It suffered mainly from a lack of energy in the main plot itself. I felt more connection with the characters during that great scene when Hellboy is watching Liz and Myers on their 'date' then I did during the big climax of the plot. I'm just never truly afraid of the villains and while Kroener was a bad ass his death was more humourous then suspenseful and frankly, Rasputin just didn't do it for me.

There, all my kvetching is out of the way and I can talk about the good stuff, cause boy howdy was there a lot of good stuff. Frankly, I adored all of the characters. Prof. Broom (in his younger incarnation) was just so geeky and scholarly and courageous that I was instantly in love. He was like this cross between Mulder and Byers, so cute. In his older incarnation he wasn't half bad either, very dedicated, very loving and you can really tell that it is all because of Broom that Hellboy grows up to be such an inherently good person. Broom's sacrifice is heartbreaking and caused me to actually tear up, something I wasn't expecting at all from this movie.

Hellboy was just... perfect. I don't know how he was supposed to be, having never read the source material, but he was perfect nonetheless. He was this combination of weary every-man hero and lovelorn tween-ager. One minute he's kicking ass and making with the sarcastic comments (and saving a box of kittens) and the next minute he's pining over Liz. If there was no other redeeming quality in this movie I would have to own it just because Hellboy is so dang cool. Love him.

I also love Liz, and, on a tangential note, who would have thought that Selma Blair had it in her? She portrays the epitome of the tragic heroine, the Eowyn of the story, if you'll allow me the metaphor. She is so afraid of herself, afraid of what she can do to the people around her that she locked herself away from everyone who could possibly matter to her. Then, when it really matters and the shit has hit the fan she embraces who she is and takes out all of the bad guys. I love that scene, the look on her face when she asks Myers to hit her and then that look of concentration, of retribution that she just embodies when she lets the fire out made me want to stand up and cheer. Amazing.

Did anyone else think it was hillarious when Broom likened Myers to Galahad. Pure of hear *snicker*. That was just too funny, because it was so very, very true. He was such a sweetie that I almost felt bad for him when Hellboy got the girl, but not too bad. It's like Liz said, "Red or white, guys are all the same." Don't worry, Myers woobie, I'm sure I'm not the only girl out there who's a little bit in love with you;-). Though, I have to admit I'm also a little in love with the fish guy, Abe Sapien. He's so the heart of the team, the glue that keeps them together, the balance. One of the truly alarming parts of the movie was when Abe had to face off with one of the Sammael demons, I really felt for him and felt his fear in the encounter. Great stuff.

Like I said, it was the characters that made Hellboy shine, not so much the action (though that was amazingly kickass at times). These are characters I hope to see again and again in as many good permutations that they (the wunderkind brains behind the movie) can come up with. Great fun, great movie and a great beginning to the spring/summer movie season.

There, I've rambled away;-). Now I should really focus on the term paper that's due next week *grumble grumble* Ciao!;-)

I bet it rained there

HA! See, you're NOT a weatherman cause it only sprinkled a few drops here yesterday. Today, however, might be a different story;-).

Oh yes, you MUST SEE FILM! It is teh wonderful.

No, don't worry about Abe. He does get hurt but his life is never really in danger. He survives and that is very, very good. After all, how could anyone hurt David Hyde Pierce?
