Jan. 14th, 2010 01:41 pmI can't even begin to express my emotions at seeing and hearing about the devestation in Haiti, but, thankfully, there are things we can do to help the recovery efforts. We can donate directly to a number of aid agencies, such as Doctors Without Borders and the International Red Cross. You can also give to LDS Humanitarian Services and if you text HAITI to 90999 you can automatically donate $10 to the Red Cross (the money will show up on your monthly phone statement). Every little bit helps.
Thank you
nwhepcat for pointing out that Misha Collins has set up a page at UNICEF US for Haiti relief donations.
One of the amazing things about fandom is how quick we are to give to a good cause. Within hours of hearing news about the earthquake in Haiti
pinkfinity set up the
help_haiti lj community. It's a place where fandom can go and bid on the services of other members of fandom, with all proceeds going to reputable charities. Bidding will be open until noon EST, Wed. January 20th.
I've offered my services over at
help_haiti. My two offers are typesetting original or fan fiction into e-book or hard copy readable formats with a starting bid of $5 and hand knitting an afghan with a starting bid of $10. As always, references are available upon request. ;-)
There are a number of people on my f-list who are also offering their services at
help_haiti:
*
abyssinia4077 will make oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, podfic, or produce one episode of Stargate Action Figure Theater.
*
shirebound is offering a very rare LotR collectible.
*
misscam is offering her fic writing services.
*
bellatemple will make a a hand stitched sock creature of your choice.
Seriously, fandom, sometimes you make me cry. In a good way.
Thank you
