I could make a post about how particularly shitty my weekend was, health-wise. Or I could make a post about the asylum documentary that nearly gave me a nervous breakdown during Immigration Law this evening, but I'm not going to do that, either.

I could even make a post about how the Big Lug and I totally pumped our fists at the exact same moment during the Mad Men season two finale (though at separate times and in separate places) and how we both agree that Duck is a ginormous dick but then I'd have to talk about how the Wrestler locked himself out of his apartment and fell off his balcony trying to get in (don't worry, he's fine) and that would just take forever.

So instead of all of that I'm going to tell you about how I went over to Better World Books and totally bought some of the Star Trek novels that I've been craving. I ordered Spock's World by Diane Duane as well as the omnibus edition of her Rihannsu series (though I'm kinda peeved about how the only copy of the last book in the series was some first edition they're selling for an exorbinant amount). I also picked up Uhura's Song by Janet Kagan which is still my favorite Star Trek novel of all time. It's all about Uhura being awesome and using her ninja!linguist skills and there's a bit with a really hot pepper.

I doubt I have to tell you that Star Trek novels were my gateway drug into fanfic as a whole. It's completely not surprising that I reacted to fanfic the way I did given how many tie-in novels I read as a child/adolescent. Really, I blame my father for all of it. He was always pawning them off on me.

I can't wait to get them. And then I can't wait to get more. Though, huh, it's very possible that fanfic has ruined/changed the tie-in industry forever. Well, not fanfic itself, but the way that fanfic is so easily proliferated on the web. Besides the old stand-bys (ST, SW) you just don't really see a lot of new genre tie-ins being published. I guess that old adage about not paying when you can get the milk for free really never had anything to do with sex at all. Well, except for the porn, but that's another tangent entirely. ;-)

I guess, in the end, everything always comes full circle. *happy sigh* It's good to be a fangirl.
