Sep. 10th, 2008 07:36 pmHave had a fairly uncomfortable past couple of days. One second I'm bitching to myself and all of my friends about how my mother doesn't understand the words "chronic illness" and then I'm having a flare-up to beat all else.
Ow.
I find it endlessly amusing that I'm close enough to the local high school to hear its marching band play. This is especially amusing when you consider the fact that I attended and graduated from said high school. I did not, however, play in the marching band, though my best friend did.
Wow, poor South Texas is going to get hammered by another hurricane. There are a lot of people down there who are going to be in a very bad way. There are whole communities built of plywood and aluminum siding, communities that are full of mostly illegal immigrants who can't depend on anyone for anything. Everytime anyone talks about immigration I think about the people I met down there and how they were working so hard with so little and it was still better than where they came from and how some Americans need to pull their heads out of their asses.
Because, let's not forget the real reason immigration (racial) quotas were instituted. It's never really had anything to do with national security or employment, and it still doesn't.
I watched the new J.J. Abrams pilot, Fringe, last night. Come on! It had Lord Denethor and Pacey, how could I not watch it?! I was definitely pulled into the narrative and found it to be an enjoyable, suspenseful time. But, then again, JJ always does a great job with pilots.
I have to admit, my favorite part was during a car chase when my brain suddenly went, 'OMG, you walked over that exact hunk of road this summer!' The fact that it was filmed in Toronto just made it that much better, at least for me. Did I ever tell you guys that when I was staying in Toronto they were filming an episode of Flashpoint right outside the dorm? The whole thing made me quite squeeful, and I didn't even know what the show was about, back then. ;-)
My new favorite things are the single serving frozen pizzas that DiGiornos and California Pizza Kitchen are marketing. They're very tasty when I make them in my toaster oven. All warm and crispy and just for me. nom nom nom
