(no subject)

I only have one thing to add to all of the noise permeating my f-list about the LJ deletions and it is this, is anyone really all that surprised that this is the inevitable result of a collision of mainstream society with fandom? I love fandom and am proud to be a member but our little corner of the internet is not normal as defined by the rest of the world. Hell, we're not even normal as defined by academic departments and they're pretty quirky in their own right. We're a group made up of staunch individualists who are willing to live and let live because that's the only way our funny little community can keep running but the rest of the world generally doesn't react that way, if something is nonconforming it tends to try and make it conform by any means necessary. Thankfully we live in the era of institutionalized ADHD and this too shall pass.

Wow, I'm such a cynic. And I was such a romantic in my youth. ;-)

In happier news, went to talk to the study abroad people today and if I play my cards right I'll have the chance to study in Canada, England, Australia, and New Zealand. I ... just ... HOLY SHIT! I've never gone anywhere and suddenly I have the opportunity to go nearly everywhere I've ever wanted to go! All I have to do is plan it all out right and save every scrap of money I have (oh boy, top ramen, here I come!) and I'll get to visit the Shire and Middle-earth! OMG

Law school might suck out loud but I will adore it forever if I actually get to do this.
