As I'm sure most of you already know, the trailer for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has appeared online.

I can't wait to see this. The trailer looks good and I am hopeful. I'm not a book purist by any stretch of the imagination. I'm never a book purist, just so long as the movie tells a good story and tells it skillfully I'm one happy li'l camper. I've been thinking that it might be fun if we organized a joint rereading of Lewis's opening chapter in his Chronicles of Narnia opus. Perhaps a little closer to December we can all get together and reenter that marvelous world. It's funny, one of the things that shocked me the most about the trailer was how young the children are. I think that those characters have kind of grown up in my head as I have gotten older. I guess they really were a formative part of my young psyche. I cannot wait for this movie to come out.

This feels like a bad year for movies. I look at the things that are coming out and I'm less then enthused. Here's hoping that some of the Oscar bait movies coming out in November and December are at least vaguely interesting. Well, if nothing else this year will give me the chance to make a sizeable dent in my Netflix queue.

Have begun the next reading cycle with Religion in the Ancient Greek City by Louise Bruit Zaidman and Pauline Schmitt Pantel. May the learning commence.

Oy, I have no Narnia icons. This must be rectified.

La la la meme

1)Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
Oy, I have no idea. Possibly 50, if both DVD and VHS collections are added together. Maybe more, but probably not. There are many, many movies that I want that I do not yet own.

2) The last film I bought:
Office Space

3) The last film I watched:
Southie. It's a South Boston family/crime drama that stars Donnie Wahlberg and a whole bunch of other people who I vaguely recognized (one of who was Will Arnett and it drove me crazy until I remembered that he is on Arrested Development, a show I don't watch faithfully but catch every now and again). It was good, a solid 3 and a half stars. The acting was good but the story could have been put together better. Dragged a little.

4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Lord of the Rings, Band of Brothers, Gattaca, Pride & Prejudice (A&E) and The Wizard of Oz. These are, of course, conditional. My tastes and favorites change by the day, if not the minute.

5) Tag five people who have to do this meme:
The pertinent question is, who hasn't done this yet? I say, whoever wants to fill this puppy out should, by all means. (Yes, yes, I am horribly lazy;-).
