Jul. 19th, 2008 04:21 pmSaw Dark Knight and it was really fucking good. The screen went to black and my first, kneejerk response was to say, "Oh, awesome." I definitely need to go see that on the IMAX.
My one quibble was [spoilers] that they shoehorned a son into the Gordon family when they could've just used Jim Gordon's daughter. You know, the one who went on to be Batgirl and Oracle and kick a ton of bad guy ass? Yeah, no need to create a son when you already had a canonical kid there, you guys. I found that a little annoying but not enough to drag me out of the story. [/spoilers]
Quibble aside, I really, really loved it. I love how Nolan&Gang have mired the Batman mythos in so much reality. This is a movie that couldn't have been made a decade ago because the movie-going public wasn't ready for it. But now it is and, man, did Nolan do it justice. It was disturbing and awesome and exactly how I wanted a Batman movie to be done.
In other news, went to Barnes&Noble today in search of the latest Naomi Novik and got picked up instead. I was minding my own business, browsing the classics, when the guy made his move. Actually, he was a nice guy, nice enough that when he suggested coffee I was happy to go over to the instore Starbucks and get something to drink. Course, it went down hill after that. He kind of only knew how to talk, not make conversation, and when we talked about movies it turned out that we had totally different tastes. Suffice it to say, he wasn't a geek. We soon went our separate ways and that was that. Nice guy, but totally not my type.
But, you know, getting picked up at the bookstore is pretty dang complimentary. Just the kind of thing to make a girl's day. And boggle her mind, but, still, not so bad.
Though I was amused that I spent much of our conversation thinking about how I was going to report the experience on lj. Which is probably a sure sign that a relationship is not about to emerge from the encounter. ;-)
So that was my bizarre Saturday. Now I have more fic to write. I'm going to go do that for a while.
