I have decided that I'm going to have a wank-free summer. Here are some steps I'm going to take to achieve it:

- Cut down time spent surfing livejournal. The less time I spend around fandom the happier I'll be. Being caught in an endless, circular argument between two sides who are both right and possibly both wrong, all at the same time, is not healthy. And also not why I got involved in fandom in the first place.

Seriously, people. It's got to stop. I'm about to bite through my tongue trying to hold my Id in check. No wonder people are jumping out of this fandom like rats fleeing a sinking ship. If I had another show that pushed all of my buttons the way SPN does I'd leave right the fuck now, and not because I think the show's descended in quality, or anything like that. I miss the season one summner hiatus, I miss it like crazy.

- Read more books. Right now I'm reading a fascinating comparative history of the French and Russian Revolutions. I don't agree with every point the author makes, but it is a compelling read, nonetheless. Plus, it made watching Prince Caspian that much more interesting because I was able to see how Adamson&Co were getting their Machiavelli on.

- Leave the frakking country. The internetz are always with us, but this way I'll have new and exciting things to see and do. I love my hometown, but that's not much happening around here, which probably accounts for my overdependence on the internet. Hopefully, this way I'll miss all the "exciting" wanks to come, both in fandom and in politics (cause if I hear anything else from those jackasses on cable news I might hurt someone).

- Write more. Yes, this means writing fic, but it means writing my fic. I have a project that I'm determined to finish by the end of the summer. I've also set up a blog to document my travels, so that'll up the overall wordcount as well.

I will do all of this and anything else I find to help me get out of my own head.

However, here's an amusing story. My brothers were demolishing the porch on my parents' house yesterday. It's a pretty high, concrete porch that's been there ever since we moved in. You know what they found underneath it? A huge hole and what was obviously a bricked in doorway. They unbricked it and discovered an empty room behind the bricked-in door, a room that none of us ever suspected was there, and that's been the family home since I was 8 years old. That is so f-ing creepy. Suddenly, some of the bizarre experiences I had growing up are starting to make a little sense ...

omg sekrit room ... creepy ...

The development of "fandom" in the age of the Internet interacting with still-unfolding stories (as opposed to being fans of works whose canons are "complete") is very fascinating. And completely stress-inducing to witness from the inside. get out while the getting's good.

but you should stay to read me, of course.

am officially

Who am I kidding? Fandom is my drug, I'm totally and completely addicted and as long as I have free time I'll always come back for more. Though who knows what'll happen when my crazy law hours really begin.

and I'll always stick aroud to read you, of course. =D

the story potential is, indeed, very exciting. It's going to stick around in the back of my head for quite awhile, believe you me. ;-)
