Entertainment Crack, vol. 2
Mar. 5th, 2004 09:19 amI'm still putzing around with title ideas for this little entertainment column, thing of mine. Today is officially the Day of the Trailer, so watch out for some big budget, cinematic spectacle!
It's March, people, and the run-up to the big event movies of the spring/summer is already beginning. The trailers are getting slicker and more dramatic and my heart is starting to pound just a little bit harder as the summer movie season draws ever closer.
First up is a movie that I know very little about, but which I might just have to go see, thanks to the great little trailer I just watched. The Day After Tomorrow from director Roland Emmerich (the same man who produced a little movie called Independance Day). It looks to be an intersting take on the disaster movie genre and the cast includes such favorites as Ian Holm, Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
See the Disaster Here
What can I say about Troy that hasn't already been said? I'm looking forward to this movie with much anticipation. I mean, just look at this cast, people! Peter O'Toole, Sean Bean, Eric Bana, Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Brendan Gleason, Sean Bean...oops, did I say Sean Bean twice? *snicker* Homer's Iliad was beyond due for a decent cinematic adaptation and it looks like Wolfgang Petersen and team have brought us the good stuff. This is, by far, the best trailer I've seen for it yet. You must watch it, now.
See the Ancient Battles Here
It looks like that old sci-fi classic, Logan's Run is going to be remade. Having never seen the movie from the '70's or read any of the books I'm not quite sure what I think about all of this, but it looks like Bryan Singer (of X-Men fame) will be directing so I am cautiously intrigued by the project. Hey, maybe Ian McKellan will show up somewhere, since he and Singer work together so much. I'd watch paint dry if Ian McKellan was narrating;-).
Singer chases 'Logan's Run'
They're making a new Batman movie, yay! And, bonus, it looks like it has nothing at all to do with those dreadful Batman movies they made in the '90's. My joy knows no bounds;-). It looks like they've just started filming in Iceland and I can't wait to see what they do with my favorite superhero.
Batman Begins in Earnest
I shouldn't have been worried about Return of the King staying in theaters for the next couple of weeks. Of course the movie that swept the Oscars is going to be around for a little while longer. TORn has reported that our precious will be seen on nearly 800 more screens starting this weekend. Yay Oscars!
Finally, as Friday is the traditional day of movie openings nationwide, I thought I'd include the lists of reviews from the Rotten Tomatoes website of the big and/or interseting movies opening this week. Viggo "The King" Mortensen has his new horse adventure Hidalgo opening today and Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson have their 70's tv-show rip-off
