A New Diet

I need a snack, stat. The Mum has us on a new diet, she's determined that we shall all follow the South Beach Diet and become healthy, happy people. Of course, that means that I'm really rather hungry at the moment and I'm counting down the minutes till 10AM when I can have my mid-morning snack. I suppose I could eat it before, but that would then mean I would have to wait that much longer till lunchtime. It's better if I suffer now;-).

It snowed yesterdary, so driving to work today was a bit of a pain. It was amazing how the streets hadn't even been cleared yet. Those guys must be getting lazy, or the budget problems here in MI have finally started effecting our municipal services. That would be kind of scary. Even though driving in the snow was annoying, I did have fun last night throwing snowballs at the dog. Good times, good times.

Ugh, Mondays. Is it 10 yet?

Everyday now I get to read some great new Middle-earth trivia because of the day-calender entitled Guide to Middle-earth that I recieved for Christmas. It's so interesting that I just have to share. So, here are the first few days of 2004, Middle-earth style:

1/1: Middle-earth Middle-earth consisted of the lands of Arda lying east of Belegaer, extending at least as far south and east as Harad and Rhun. In the First and Second Ages it included Cuivienen and Hildorien, and probably all of the lands north of Beleriand and Eriador as far as Ekkaia. But in the very far east in the Elder Days there were inner seas separating Middle-earth from something else, perhaps the Empty Lands, which, if they were part of Middle-earth, were ignored by geographers and mariners. The Change of the World at the downfall of Numenor damaged the coasts of Middle-earth but apparently did not alter its boundaries.
Middle-earth is called Endore in Quenya and Ennor in Sindarin. It is also called the Great Lands, the Hither Lands, the Hither Shores, the Wide World, and the Outer Lands.

1/2: Iluvatar Iluvatar is God. Dwelling alone in the Timeless Halls, Iluvatar created the Ainur with the Flame Imperishable of his spirit, and he revealed to each of them a part of his mind. Desiring to make their comprehension more complete, he revealed to the Ainur the three great themes of the Ainulindale. When Melkor created discord within that Music, but others of the Ainur were drawn to the Vision which came from it, Iluvatar gave it Being, and Ea was created.
Within Ea, the Valar independently tried to fulfill the Music, but some things-the creation of Men and Elves, the destiny of Men, and the End, for example-remained known only to Iluvatar. He intervened directly in the affairs of Ea only twice: to sanctify Aule's creation of the Dwarves, and to change Arda at the request of the Valar, when the Numenoreans landed on Aman.
Iluvatar is the name given to him in Arda; he is also called Eru, Eru Iluvatar, the One, and (once)God.

1/3: Ainur The Ainur are angelic spirits, offspring of the thought of Iluvatar. Most of the Ainur dwell with Iluvatar, but some, the Valar and Maiar, are in Ea to fulfill the Ainulindale. Others, including Ungoliant and the Balrogs, came to Ea to hinder the Ainulindale and conquer or destroy the Light; of these, some, notably Melkor and Sauron, have been cast out into the Void.
The Ainur have no innate forms, and the names by which the Valar and Maiar are known were probably given them within Ea. Although beings of spirit, they have kinship with each other and gender.
The Ainur are also called the Holy Ones and the Great Ones.

1/4: Ainulindale Ainulindale is the Great Music sung by the Ainur, the development of the three themes of Iluvatar and thus an expression of the divine order. The first theme, created by Iluvatar but developed by the Ainur, presented the form of Ea. This theme was marred by the discord of Melkor, but the second theme, probably indicating the shaping of Arda, defeated this discord and incorporated it into itself. The third theme, in which the Ainur did not participate, dealt with the creation of the Children of Iluvatar and their history up to the Dominion of Men.
It is also called the Music of the Ainur, the Great Music, the Music, and the Song.

1/5 Arda Arda is the Earth, intended by Iluvatar to be the abode of his Children. As conceived in the Ainulindale, Arda was to be temperate and symmetrical, but it was seriously marred by the malice of Melkor and the struggles between him and the Malar.
When the Valar had fulfilled as much of the Vision as they could, Arda was round and flat, encircled by Ekkaia, the Outer Sea, which in turn was enclosed within the Walls of the Night. Arda contained at least two great continents, Aman and Middle-earth, separated by Belegaer. Beneath the field of Arda was a great expanse of rock, pocked with caves; it is not said if this rock rested on anything. Above was the Veil of Arda, the atmosphere.

I've never heard of that diet before, what is the main focus of it? I'm ready to go back on Weight Watchers, before I can't fit in my clothes anymore. Soon I'll be driving to work seperately, which hopefully means I can get up with Danielle in the morning and exercise.

It's one of thsoe diets from a book. My Mum bought it over the summer. Apparently it's another low-carb diet, though not as intensive as the Atkins. It goes in phases, the first one cuts out everything like bread and potatoes and even fruit for two weeks, then in the second phase you can start to add that stuff back in, a little bit. I'll let you know how well it works.

I know what you mean about not fitting into clothes anymore. The holidays really chunked me up.

dare i point out...

that SELF magazine gave the South Beach Diet a "C" rating? just be careful with it...remember, you need carbs to help your brain to function, not to mention the rest of you...

Oh believe me, I know I need carbs. If it gets too bad there's always random stuff at work to nosh on;-). We'll see how this diet goes, I hope it works, at least for my Mum's sake.

Heh... guess what my mom is trying to get my family to do? ;) I feel your pain... though my sis and I are going to try to get away with as much as possible... 0:) Not too keen on the whole idea of this diet, that's for sure. Seems rather over-the-top. Ah, well. Gotta love fad diets. :p

Aaah, a fellow sufferer. It's most unamusing, isn't it? ;-) I think I'll be joining you and your sis in getting away with as much as possible. After all, what's the fun of dieting if you never cheat?;-)
