I watched the Oscars last night with the [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr sisters.

Before I start I have a confession to make, the only Best Picture nominee I saw this year was Brokeback Mountain and I only saw that because it was a Fangirl Event. I didn't see any of the other movies because I have realized that I don't need to go to the movies to see deep, insightful issue movies. They depress me. I want to go to the movies and see shit get blown up or be told a great story, to be whisked away from the obnoxiousness of life if only for a couple hours. That and I heard that Crash was a ham-handed hack job of a story and from what I heard during the ceremony last night the critics were right. I'm sorry, it actually talks about people who get into crashes because they need a human connection? *Spock eyebrow* Ooooooohkay. That's not anvil-tastic or anything.

Though I should've seen Walk the Line 'cause Joaquin was smokin' in that. Dayumn.

So it was nice to go into an Academy Awards ceremony with no hopes and dreams to be dashed against the stage lights. I loved Jon and all those TV critic type people who have been saying he bombed can just suck it. They are obviously as moronic as the people in the Kodak Theater. I loved George Clooney but who doesn't? George loving is a fucking institution, especially in fandom. I loved Dolly Parton. She got up on that stage and owned it, body and soul. She didn't need no stinking artsy-fartsy shit goin' on because she's Dolly Parton and she's an entertainer to the core. The Aussies are taking over, if the presenters were anything to go by (Nicole, Naomi, Eric) and Ben Stiller is on the good crack but it doesn't matter because I wish I had been at some of the after-parties with him and Owen and Luke and Will.

It's a good thing that Terence Howard is such a great actor because his normal talking voice is kinda ... prissy. It's weird. That's okay, though, cause he rocks like a rocking thing.

I am amused by how fandom is frothing over how a loss for BBM means a loss for gay rights and things like that. I'm sorry, but it's Hollywood and the Academy, neither of which are very good with the deep poli-social insight. They have a hard time making rational decisions, let alone poignant, meaningful ones. Frankly, I think Hollywood hates us just as much as D.C. does, just in different ways.

But I make no judgements. After all, my favorite movie of last year was Chornicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. *snerk*

Speaking of fantasy movies, wasn't it great to see the boys from WETA up on the stage again? I fangirl Richard Taylor and was disappointed not to see Grant Major and Dan Hennah on stage, I'm such a dork. *displays dork badge proudly*

The Sister promises that when we win our big producing Oscar she's going to thank Elijah and Dom and Billy and Sean and Orli and Viggo for being so smoking in LotR and bringing us together. Remember that in 20 years when we're up on that stage together. ;-)

In conclusion: Jon Stewart must host the Academy Awards forever and ever.

There were some people outside doing a window estimate and the Pup was going crazy. At one point he came downstairs and stared at me and stared at me until I asked him if there was something he wanted me to see. He did and I followed him upstairs to watch him bark at the poor guys doing their job interlopers. It was a very 'Timmy feel down the well' moment.

If George Clooney took over the world would anyone care enough to try and stop him?

I also will love Jon forever and continue to think George is the cat's PJs. I only saw BBM and Walk the Line. Surprise surprise, I agree with everything you said up there.

I also fear saying how not-end-of-the-worldy I feel about the whole thing. I will surely be ostracized and told I am dead inside, and I'm kinda sick of hearing it.

p.s. omg wasn't Chief hot in is psychosis undies??? Nice behind and legs, eh?? Except poor Chief and poor Cally!

No, the Academy has no soul. There is a difference. Those of us who have been accused of being dead inside would like to separate our deadness from the Academy's evilness, thank you very much. *snerk*

D00d, I know. I say that from now on everybody who wasn't moved to tears of rage and sorrow by Wash's demise are the truly dead inside. So there.

OMG CHIEF! Our husband was looking awfully good for being all strung out and scary-scruffy. He really needs a good civilian girlfriend to make everything all better.

SKY! FALLING! PIECES! BIG! CHICKENS! SMALL! ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE.

and ahemahemahem: [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and I used the term "hearts of stone"; "Dead Inside" apparently is a self-chosen label. No doubt inspired by the ever-inspirational Ana-Lucia.

Oh no, "hearts of stone" was just Baylor being polite. You should hear her when she really gets going. Though Her Sister and I laying on the couch, laughing at her, might exacerbate the situation just a titch. ;-)

Galen wasn't quite sure if the priest had really helped him but he was back at work and it did feel good to be there, so that was something. There were a few glares of recrimination from around the deck but there was also sympathy and Tyrol had gotten awfully good at ignoring the things he didn't want to see.

Election Day was abnormally quiet on deck, just the normal CAPs to prepare for and the more neurotic of the nuggets to soothe. Chief was almost surprised to see Cynthia show up with her normal stack of forms to sign and munitions reports to double-check. She smiled at him, a bright, breezy, happy grin that was so real and honest that he found that he couldn't look away. It was the first time in a long time that Galen found himself returning a smile and actually meaning it.

Why would anyone want to try and stop George Clooney from taking over the world? Do you think I can volunteer for his world takeover campaign?
