Went to Best Buy today in search of the next Farscape collection but the bastards didn't have it. Instead bought the Narnia soundtrack and the latest Foo Fighters album. The Narnia score is even more amazing then I thought it would be. It hits me on so many levels, both visceral and philosophical. I love how great music can just take me up and away, move me and inspire me. It's such an integral part of my movie experience that without a great score I don't think I can fully appreciate a picture. Music, music, music, I would be nothing without you.

Finally saw the latest BSG episode. What a ride. First off:

Dear Mr. Moore,
You don't know us and we don't know you but we would like to take this opportunity to warn you that if you harm a single hair on Tyrol's head [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and I will have to hurt you, severely. We are still endeavoring to overcome the shock and grief we felt at the passing of our last space boyfriend and will not allow you to put us through something like that again.

We're putting you on notice, sir, and hope that you will take this as seriously as we take your weekly actions.

Sincerely,

[livejournal.com profile] liptonrm and [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth

Now that I've gotten that very important message out of the way I can spew forth with love for the gritty, layered relationships that are everywhere on that show!!! Starbuck will do anything for Adama but she has felt a tenuous sort of connection with Cain so will she really be able to pull do the deed? The military is all Kara knows and you know that she'll never be truly satisfied searching for a mythical Earth when there are people, compatriots, back on Caprica that still need her help.

Cain is the example of how someone can just go completely batshit crazy after their world is destroyed. She has a Speirs-like ruthlessness and focus that must make her one hell of a soldier but she's completely lost the compassion that made her any sort of a human. If the survivors give up the trappings of civilization all to fulfill a probably-doomed quest to destroy their robotic enemies then it becomes a classic case of becoming what you most hate and from what I've observed that is never worth the price. And yet, on a level, one cannot blame her for starting down that path because the mission is all she has left, without her war there was no reason for her to survive when so many others died.

Seeing conditions on the Pegasus really illustrate how much Roslin and Adama have done for their fleet. They've given them hope and a reason to keep on living with their humanity well intact.

Layers upon layers, my friends, layers upon freaking layers. This is the kind of show Joss Whedon only wishes he could make. I can't wait till next week.

New Lost tomorrow night. Looks like it's going to be a Mr. Eko episode. Very exciting.

Look at the beautiful new icon I found! I love that moment when Peter and Edmund finally see each other as they really are without anything else in the way. They're such boys because it takes both of them almost dying for them to actually hug and acknowledge that yes, they really love each other but, oh, it's just perfect. I love them all so much.

This is why you really need to watch Deep Space 9, the red-headed stepchild of the Star Trek family of shows.

There is no one else on this earth who could turn around and have the balls to actually make the Federation less than perfect.

Excellent letter, my dear. Thank you so much for putting it into words more rational than OMG DUN KE3L MI NU SPASE BOIFREN@!!@!@!

I broke down and ordered the miniseries and first season set from Amazon. I have to watch this at least a few more times before I can speak as intelligently as you do about it. Or that may be a pipe dream and I may just want my crack in a more versitile form, thanks.

Plus, I want to be able to make my own icons :0)

Is Lost a two-hour thing tonight?

Oh, don't worry, my love for DS9 is overwhelmingly pure. Actually, it's on behind me right at this very moment. I've just been burned so often by tv shows lately that I get kinda nervous, it's possibly some form of TV PTSD. ;-)

It's always amused me that Whedon would say that Firefly was his anti-Star Trek when we already had one and it's name was Deep Space Nine. I swear that man doesn't know half as much as he thinks he does.

You know, I think this is the very first time that we've come into a new fandom at the very same time. Except maybe Lost but for some reason that doesn't seem to count. It's all very exciting. =D

Mmmmm, BSG crack. We must have it all, precious.

You know, I don't know. I don't think Lost is two hours tonight but I haven't heard anything one way or another. It should be two hours, what with having to wait 6 whole weeks for a new episode.

*snicker* So vewy, vewy true.

Now is he half as talented as he thinks he is.

Actually, what cracks me up is how Whedon at one point during his heady Firefly days was claiming that his show was the first SciFi show ever to tackle political issues and invest in long arcs.

And how much fun was it for the Babylon 5 fans to come out of the woodwork and start going: "BWAHAHAHAHAHAAH! Poseur!"

And the Deep Space 9 doing the "Captain Sisko is waaaay cooler than your Captain Mal" dance.

Granted, the Farscape don't have much by way of politics, but season arcs? Hey! We gotchyer season arcs right here, baby.

Seriously, though. I was following a thread where some of the Firefly fans are trying to take credit for the awesomeness that is the new BSG.

*headdesk*

Just because the special effects company also worked on Firefly does not mean that Firefly paved the way for BSG to exist nor does it mean that RM has been influenced by JW, at all.

Same special effects company =/= BSG's storyline has been influenced by Firefly

I meant: "nor is he half as talented as he thinks he is."

JW is talented, yes. But I suspect that he thinks he's much, much better than he actually is.

I love our new fandom of 2! I'm carefully approaching fic comms and such now. I fear fanfic.net, and have already seen from my initial exploration that there's a lot of crap out there. But I have happened upon a couple of good ones. And I found a marvelous resource: www.battlestarwiki.org. Wikipedia for BSG!!

Sigh. As soon as I get my personal crack kit, I have a fun/funny idea for a Cally icon.

My TV Guide has answered my question. 7-8 is a clip show recapping Season 2 so far, then 8-9 is new episode.

Dude, I know. Whedon's egomaniacal tendencies are always good for a laugh. Though I've got a feeling his fans are somewhat to blame. It's like a neverending feeback loop where he comes up with something clever (because he's nothing if not 'clever') and the fans laud it as the greatest thing ever created which causes his head to grow two sizes larger so then he comes up with something he thinks is even better and on and on ad infinitum.

Frankly, if he's going to make blanket statements about science fiction and how his is the best.thing.evar. he should really know what he's talking about. Sweeping generalities are bad enough but uneducated sweeping generalities make me want to spit nails.

And let's not even get started about his 'feminism' because apparently independant women are all fine and good but if they can't fit into a certain, very specific mold then they must be punished and punished and punished again.

It's funny, spent New Year's weekend watching all of Firefly with some friends (it's a long, long story) and came away from it with a real desire to watch hours and hours of Farscape. Now that's a show that did crazy really, really well. And, heck, that universe might have been full of all sorts of crazy shit but at least it had an inner coherency that none of Whedon's show have ever been able to sustain.

OMG, it's like I can't stop thinking about BSG. I'm having a hard time coming up with Lost commentary because my brain is overcome. Well, that and the hour long intense Sekrit Pretend World indoctrination Baylor gave me last night. Apparently if I'm going to live under her roof I have to know what the hell she's babbling about.

I love Cally. I would so be Cally except for that whole 'engineering' thing. Me and the math, not so much.

Though, if that last sentence is any indication, I'm not quite a grammar genius either. =D

You mean there's more to the Sekrit Pretend World than we'd formerly heard? *is afraid*

SERIOUSLY!!! BSG is taking over my brain in the most frightening fashion. It's the first thing I think of when I wake up. I CAN'T wait til next week when my DVDs get here and I can watch it, like, on my TV on my couch, with pause that doesn't mess up the audio, and commentary and stuff!

Hey, I found my PowerDVD install disc. Shall I send it to you? You may have to spend the $8 to upgrade to the type that takes screen caps (can't remember if I just paid more for it up front or if I had to download it for $ after), but it will at least get you started.

I have love/hate issues with Cally. Mostly love, but I have take strong issue with her going all Jack Ruby. Poor Chief!!
