New Year's Eve!
Dec. 31st, 2003 09:09 amI hear it's already 2004 over in New Zealand. Dangit, why is it that everytime I even hear the name of that lovely country I have the most inexorable urge to just go there? I blame the movies, really, I do;-).
Went to a little three person shindig last night over at
hlgraban's apartment last night. It was just her, Dan and I, but we succeeded in having a very delightful time. We exchanged gifts. I am now the proud owner of a copy of the PotC dvd, an Onion day-calender (thanks to hlgraban;-) and a lovely Guide to Middle-earth day-calender from Dan. I'm rolling in the calender love, I might just have to start posting the daily Tolkien information I'm about to be receiving;-). We also played some Trivial Pursuit, which was fun and made us all feel like idiots. Heather won, though I have to tell you she and I were neck and neck by the end;-). That game is all about knowledge and luck. You get the right questions, you win the game. It's so much fun. Of course, Dan and I were grumbling that we needed to be playing LotR Trivial Pursuit, not only would the game have gone faster, but I probably would have won. Yay!;-)
Course, now I'm all tired this morning. Almost didn't get out of bed, which would have been bad 'cause I really need the money work will bring me. The Holidays were very expensive, and very fattening, but those are two completely different subjects;-). Anyway, Happy New Years to all! And to all a fun/drunk/festive night!
You can all blame
hlgraban for the forthcoming Actually, go over to her lj and read some of the hillarious things she has to say about the whole Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time conundrum. The Monty Python and the SciFi Channel stuff are really funny. I'm pretty sure that most people who read fantasy have read these books at some point, got sucked into the early plotlines and are fond of a few of the characters so we continue buying these books, even though nothing ever happens and nothing is ever resolved. I call them my crack addiction (and it was really funny when I called them that when I was working at a bookstore and someone got all defensive, saying how they were good books, etc. etc. Come on, calling them crack doesn't mean they're bad, just that they're addictive and they suck your wallet dry;-). If they are crack, then I am definitely its dealer, seeing as I've talked a couple of people into reading them (my Da and the Brother in Chile). However, RJ, that corrupter of the innocent, is the manufacturer, and he'd better watch out, if he doesn't start churning out some of the good stuff his junkies are going to revolt and beat him to death, or we may just keep on hanging on, hoping to get any sort of fix we can...
Wow, I took that crack metaphor a little far, didn't I?;-) Anywho, I'm not quite sure where I was going with this, just felt like I had to share;-)

Date: 2004-01-02 05:16 pm (UTC)Your crack, huh? Ye Gods woman! I love books too, but damn, you really ARE an addict! I hope the man you someday marry doesn't get jealous of this obsession with RJ and Tolkien ;) Of course, I suppose your sex life won't lack for imagination, will it? J/K!! That's one thing we SF/F readers have on everyone else... a well-developed sense of imagination and creativity. And I for one happen to think that's a very important quality to have. -H

Date: 2004-01-02 05:59 pm (UTC)The more I think about that crack metaphor, the more I like it;-). Yeah, us SF/F people, we never lack for imagination, or new crack dealers to get us the good stuff;-).
